Developmental Mites

This is the entry level program at North Park, providing an introduction to hockey, with a strong emphasis on developing skating skills. The primary goal of the program is to create a fun experience for the children and build a foundation for a lifelong love of hockey.

Ages

2014-2016 birth years, with most of the children in the program being 2014-2015 birth years.

When

November thru February, excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas and President’s Day Weekend.

Where

The Winter Village at Bryant Park and potentially at The Graveyard, a new rink being built in Long Island City. There will also be optional opportunities to skate at City Ice Pavilion and Cutting Edge on occasion.

Practices

Bryant Park: Saturday and Sunday 7a-8 or The Graveyard: Saturday and Sunday 940a-1050a

Games

The Developmental Mites will typically play a few games locally, but the primary focus of Developmental Mites is skating and skills development. Fun scrimmages and games are incorporated into the regular practice sessions.

Jerseys

Developmental Mites are encouraged to purchase the less expensive Mites uniform package. Younger siblings are welcome to wear past uniforms.

Additional Costs

Participants will need to purchase skates, helmets, pants and pads separately. North Park helmets are white, ideally with a black cage, but any helmet color is welcome in the Developmental Mites. All children are required to wear neck guards.
